My husband is a marine stationed in Okinawa Japan. I am over here with him as a dependant on a sofa status passport. I was working at a club and I emblezzed $14,000. This club was on a military base so the Japanese are not involved. The base inspectors office has taken my military id and passport. I have been restricted to quarters since June of 01. They say this is not punishment but adminstration sanctions. I was read my rights and I admitted my crime. My question is what can they do to me? We keep asking what they plan to do and they say they are still waiting on answers. We ask if there are any questions we need to be answering and they say no. My husband has orders to leave come June of this year. Does anyone know if they can keep me here without him? Someone told me they might have federal marshals waiting for me when we go back to the states. Anyone know anything about that type of situation? Thanks for your help.

even though you are over seas, you are on an american installation and therefore subject to american law. if they decide to prosecute then you will face justice in an american court. the court case should be handled just like a normal court case. due to the fact that your a dependent, your husband can also face charges under the UCMJ, and possibley be discharged from the Marine Corps.

I'm not a lawyer by any means but I did serve in the Marine Corps and have heard similar stories. Thus I have some perspective on the situation.

My question is what can they do to me?
You were technically on American soil when you stole $14,000 and admitted guilt. It looks to me like you will be facing federal charges for embezzelment. I can't imagine a scenerio where you do not go to prison for this. Please note that this answer is my own opinion and does not constitute legal advice.

They most definately can. And please note that this answer wasn't my opinion, it's fact.

I doubt they will be waiting for you on your arrival. More likely they will be escorting you on your journey. You are facing serious charges. You think they are just going to let you travel freely from the country on your own recognizance?? Note, this was opinion.
