What is the name of your state? California

I am seperated from my husband, but he managed to get ahold of my engagement ring--- and he pawned it. But, after borrowing money from a neighbor, he was unable to pay her back on time. Consequently, he gave her the pawn ticket as collateral. She paid to get it out, had it appraised and tried to sell it. Frustrated that she could not get anything near to the value at which is was appraised (over $10,000) from any jewelry store, she decided to clue me in, and try to get the money from me. She will not give the ring back until the debt is paid. I want my ring back, and I don't feel as if I should be held resposible for what my husband did without my knowledge. I realize she feels victimized by my husband who owes her $3,800, but I am also a victim here. What are my rights and what should I do? She told me if I consulted with anyone about this, that she would sell the ring--- but my thinking is that it is not within her rights to do so, since she knows he took the ring without my consent. I have a good friend who went with me as a witness to be sure she was clear that this is the case. Also, what do I do if she has already sold the ring?

you would have to file a lawsuit for the ring against the lady and your husband. In the meantime she can sell the ring or do whatever else she wants with it.

Is your separation filed with the court?
