    Angry

My 17yo no longer lives with me. She's been in psychiatric facilities in the past but hasn't yet learned the error of her ways. She just stole money from her sisters roommate. She has stolen cars and been caught shop lifting yet I am told that because she is a minor there is little that can be done. She is totally out of my control yet I am responsible for her actions. Is there any way in the state of Arizona (which doesn't recognize emancipation of minors) to get her help before she turns 18 and goes to jail? Also, what can I do to protect myself from her actions. She uses drugs and I feel helpless. Have tried every avenue I know of to no avail. I've reached the end of my rope!!

    My response:

You might want to take her on a trip to someplace you and she have never been, like Cancun, Mexico; you know, a mother / daughter retreat, so that each of you can get to know each other - - a little quality time together. And then, when that doesn't work, get on the airplane and leave her there.

Unhappy my family is in your situtation

Hi my name is Heather. Your daughter's actions seem like a G-rated version of my brother's "endeavors". I am not sure of what the results of her evaluations at these phychatric facilities. If her behaviors are not just a wild or young phase and are actually a serious mental problem then there may be one avenue stil available to you and your child if you hurry, before she turns 18. If you think her problem lies in a mental problem and are prepared to exicute some tough love there may be hope for her yet. If you would like more info you can e-mail me @ opa831@hotmail.com

    Exclamation incorrigable teen

I was in the same situation with my son. Teens don't act up like this for no reason. She's screaming for attention - yours. Don't hold back on this. Be bold and act now!! I allowed others to influence me in how I handled my son and right now he's doing time in a state prison for several felony charges and he also has a serious drug/alcohol addiction to deal with for the rest of his life. This is life or death for your daughter and it requires BOLD action on your part. Has there been sexual abuse that you are aware of? Where's this kid's father? What you do depends on your financial status but you may have to commit her long term in a state facility - but don't give up any rights and keep a VERY close eye on what's going on with her daily there. Forget about whether you are going to make her mad at you. It's not important for now. If what you do now brings some sanity into her life, she will love you forever in the long run. My heart goes out to you and I'll keep you in my prayers. Good luck and don't listen to what anyone else says about how you have to handle this. She's your daughter and no one else will bother to visit her in prison or put flowers on her grave.
