I recently got an email that was very sexually offensive at work saying I subscribed to a free newsletter and it was a very offensive newsletter and I did not subscibe to.

It was a welcome email, asking me to return and confirm that i wanted this free sexually explicit newsletter sent to me weekly at my work email address. At the top of the email it stated that someone at such and such an email address had signed me up for the newsletter. I recognized the email address as a former disgruntled employee that I fired several weeks ago.

This person no longer works for the company and appears to have subscribed me to get this very offensive newsletter sent to me as some sort of harrassment. I know who did this, Is there any legal action I can take? Is it worth it? This is New Jersey. Thank you,

Bobbie:

#1 rule about email:

NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER

.respond to have your name taken off the list.

IT PROVES YOU EXIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

#2 Yes you should contact the police and give them all the information, they will investigate.

#3 you will be getting the porn for maybe a month or two then it will probably go away.

#4 Always get your self a junk or secondary email I have 4 in order to post on bulletin boards, Usenet newsgroups etc, and all the junk spam mail will got to those addresess.

#5 IF you know what you are doing, you could add something to your email address which will make it impossible for them to just hit reply.

such as: [email protected] and you tell people to remove the zzzz to reply.

======== The most important fact of all:

ALL forms of technological innovation starts with the desire to make porn more accessable. No kidding

16 mm movies, then sound the 8 mm then sound super 8 film, then VCR's were very expensive but when they started making porn on video sales BOOMED! It wasnt hollywood putting movies on tape,..they were trying to rip people off by charging $79.95 for a movie!!!!

It was porn, that was far cheaper then movies same with Cd's and CD with graphic, and cd Video... same with fast connections DSL and cable ,now the same with DVD its always porn which drives the initial market.

Of course Hollywood finally got smart about DVD and made tons of available movies and at a reasonable price. Which has caused the price of porn DVD's to drop quite a bit, taking a lot of profit of of the business...YEAH!

well what is the legal charges to be brought up about this harrassment matter?

A couple more things. The disgruntled employee did not send me the email directly, it was sent by a third party. This only happened one time. The former disgruntled employee now lives in another state. How accurately can this be proven.

I know this guy did it, but isn't there a question that he will say he didn't do it, then there is a long investigation, and maybe I need a lawyer, and I have to prove that he started this whole thing. This guy didn't even send me the email, it was sent by a third party on the request of this guy...

and then when I get the company lawyer he will want me to tell him why I am getting this gay porn sent to me by a former employee...I am not sure if this will be more harm to my image than to just take your advise and get a new email....Yah I want to get this guy, but I have to prove it, and in the process I will have to answer a lot of questions...

What happens if they track this guy down and he says he didn't do this? Thank you for the advise.

Not sure what to say.......he is guilty of sending you porn, and it is on a list..

well are you gay? is that why you dont want to persue this?

Would it be that much trouble to make up a new email for yourself, and let everyone know? Or do you have a very responsible job and get tons of business realted emails you have to answer every day?

no....it just seems like a long process that might end up in courtroom...the internet is such a new technology and I don't know what the laws are, or whether it would just come down to a me versus him about this thing.

I know the guy....maybe he is disgruntled...i don't know...

Would you wait for this to happen again? This is an email that I really can't change. I just don't want to be harrassed and this is like calling someone on the phone... Thank you,
