I retained a private lawyer to represent my husband on an postconviction relief act hearing based on new evidence gathered. The judge dismissed the petition and we have 30 days to file an appeal to the Superior Court. We received a letter from our lawyer saying he is no longer representing us in this case. Is he obligated to represent my husband through the appeal process? At what stage is a lawyer no longer retained?
