What is the name of your state? UTAH

Hello,

I need help...four years ago the father of my children confided in me that he robbed a bank and told me he would kill me if I ever told anyone. We broke it off three years ago when he went to prison for an unrelated crime. Right before he was released I moved across the country to get away from him. I finally feel safe because I am so far away and I wanted to notify the authorities about his involvement in the robbery but I am afraid they will charge me with something because I have known all this time and didn't say anything.

Does anyone know if they will try to charge me with something? And if they can...what would it be? This is really eating at me and I want to turn him in but I have two kids and I don't want to go to jail and leave my kids with no parents.

Please help me.

The most likely applicable charge would be Harboring a Fugitive (or whatever state's equivalent). The odds of them charging you with it are extremely remote, if you're turning him in.

Contact the FBI office in the city where the robbery occurred. They have jurisdiction over Bank Robbery, because bank are insured by FDIC. Normally, the Feebs are pretty good about "overlooking" their informant's culpability. Explain that he's violent and you were terrified that he'd kill you if you told anyone.

Start by calling the office and asking if a bank robbery actually occurred on the date, time, and place he told you about. If it happened as described, you can go on with your story from there.

Bear in mind that they will definitely want very detailed information, that they can verify through evidence or other sources. Expect to have to travel back to that city at some point. You can count on them wanting you to testify against him in court.

Unless they can prove you were actively aiding him in avoiding getting caught, they can't charge you with anything. Knowing someone committed a crime and not reporting it is not a crime.
