What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

A few days ago, I received a phone call from a detective at our local police department to come in and talk about allegations that I made fake Facebook accounts and used them sexually blackmail multiple men. I know legal advice websites tell you NOT to talk to police without the accompanyment of a laywer, but I was just so sick of life in its current form and was ready to deal with the consequences that I answered I was responsible and that I would be coming in to talk to him.

When I went into the police station, he was friendly and got straight to the chase. He asked me if I would like a lawyer. I answered no and that I was ready to comply and answer his questions truthfully.

He showed me a stack of Facebook reports and that he had spoken with the head of Facebook Security, as well as investigators in several US states and that the allegations against me were serious. There were allegations that I met men off [email protected], used their publicly available pornographic photos and threatened them for more on Facebook or else I'd show their friends/family. So essentially blackmail/extortion.

I answered truthfully and immediately confessed that I was responsible for this and everything in his stack of reports. I explained that this all began after I had quit my high paying job because of anxiety problems and that I went online to vent my rage at anyone and everyone. I offered to let him check my record of employment. He told me he didn't see a purpose in what I was doing and he asked me if I just wanted my misery to have company? I said yes but I never made good on exposing the people. He asked me if I extorted for money, I said no and he said this was good because he would for sure be arresting me for that. He also asked me if I targeted minors because one of the guys was 17. I said no because this was on Chaturbate an adult site and that if he was a minor, he likely lied about his age to get onto the site. He then asked me if I still had images of him. I honestly answered I wasn't sure because it was so long ago that I don't even remember the guy's name so I may have/may have not deleted it.

So I told him I had confessed and I was responsible for all of this. I asked him if he was going to arrest me because I preferred he did it now as opposed to later and that I would comply. He then told me that he didn't think I was a bad person because I immediately confessed over the phone when he made first contact with me and also confessed with no hesitation when I met him at the station. To him, I seemed like a kid that lost his life way in life and that I could have a great future if I was given a wake up call. He said he was not going to arrest me for this and he had no intention of arresting me for this because he had bigger fish to fry, that this was not as big of a deal relative to the homicides or robberies he investigates etc. He also asked "If I let you out of these doors, will you promise that you will go home, delete all the pictures and fake profiles? You are aware that with computers, even when you delete pictures, they are never fully gone? If I let you out of these doors, will you promise you will stop what you are doing forever? If I hear anything else after this, you will be back and you will be arrested."

I agreed to what he asked but told him I was weary he was just using what he gathered today to arrest me later months down the line. I again pleaded that if he was going to arrest me if he could please do it now. He said no and again told me he had no intention of arresting me....unless I wanted myself to be arrested. O_O I said I didn't but if I was going to be arrested, please do it now to spare me the embarassment.

He then said he had an obligation to seek out help for me as well as I was a citizen of the city he was responsible for. He asked me if I ever thought of self harm for my anxiety problems. I said yes and he gave me mental health numbers as well as his number to call anytime I felt like I was going to have a mental meltdown or felt urges to f* with people online.

He told me to email him later once I got home and had deleted all the images and accounts. This was his response when I asked if there was anything else I needed to do.
No xxx,

Just ensure that no more silly activity from any account you are associated with. I will be clearing my investigation and referencing that you were cautioned for your actions.

I wish you the best of luck in the future. Make sure you make those phone calls to the right people, instead of dragging others in..
NOW MY QUESTIONS
I'm weary of this officer because it seems he pulled all the cards of "Mr. Nice Officer" that you're supposed to look out for in a police interview.

I took his advice and deleted the photos. Hell, I threw my laptop into the lake from a ferry the following day because he himself told me nothing could be deleted. If he was continuing his investigation into me, would he have given me the opportunity to destroy evidence? He basically told me himself to destroy the evidence.

I offered to let him arrest me and offered to comply, which would have given him the right to search me right? Why didn't he take my offer?

Is he genuine in that the investigation against me has closed or is this just a front to getting my guard down for a future search warrant against me?
