What is the name of your state? - Arizona

ok my friend and I were just arrested for shoplifting. My court date is in 11 days. We were not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol while we were shoplifting. We are both 19, with no previous arrests. we each took a $10 pair of panties, nothing else. what kind of punishment are we dealing with here? do we need to hire attorneys? obviously we will both plead guilty b/c we oh so clearly were, but is there anything I can do to minimize my punishment? if it is a fine, how large will the fine be? could I be put on probation, required to have drug tests, etc.? will I have the option of doing community service? sorry for so many questions, just wanted to cover everything here -

Why is it so important for you to steal underwear? You probalay will be on probation with some kind of paying store back. As far as probation, you MIGHT be on drug test. Hey, don't worry too much, it is not like state is going to try you on capital punishment, but shoplifting is serious too. And I am not sure about fines. My view of theory is that you might be on probation (maybe 11 months and 29 days of suspended sentence) with some fines and paying store back.

How does someone approach a friend with a plan to shoplift underpants? If a friend asked me if I wanted to go shoplifting today I would be stunned. If they asked if I wanted to go shoplifting for underpants I think I would call the psychiatric ward of the local hospital.

I hope it was worth it for you!

Q: How does someone approach a friend with a plan to shoplift underpants?

A: Hey, I want to ruin my life. Do you? Okay, then let's nick some nickers.

this site is useless, and all of your comments are equally useless. this would not be so bad if they were funny, but in fact they represent pathetically weak attempts at sarcasm. honestly, you people who post these pretentiously self-important replies on here need to get a life. or at least a sense of humor that doesn't reek of deep seeded insecurities. until you do, don't waste my ****ing time. this goes especially for a certain senior member, who posts way too much and never has anything of any importance to anyone to say.

ps - a proper grasp of the basic elements of english grammar, spelling, and punctuation might be helpful in conveying your witless points across.

Here are some hints on appearing in court:

Dress professionally in clean clothes.

Do not wear message shirts.

Don't chew gum, smoke, or eat.

Bathe and wash your hair.

Go to court beforehand some day before you actually have to go to watch how things go.

Speak politely and deferentially. If you argue or dispute something, do it professionally and without emotion.

Ask the court clerk who you talk to about a diversion (meaning you want to plead to a different, lesser charge), if applicable in your situation.

Here are five stories that criminal court judges hear the most (and I suggest you do not use them or variations of them):

1. I’ve been saved! (This is not religion specific; folks from all kinds of religious backgrounds use this one.)

2. My girlfriend/mother/sister/daughter is pregnant/sick/dying/dead/crippled and needs my help.

3. I’ve got a job in [name a state five hundred miles away].

4. This is the first time I ever did this.

5. You’ve got the wrong guy. (A variation of this one is the phantom defendant story: “It wasn’t me driving, it was a hitchhiker I picked up. He wrecked the car, drug me behind the wheel then took off.”)

A proper grasp of how to pay for panties might be helpful for your future.
