Son and roommate battery

What is the name of your state? pa......but issue occurred in wva
my son and his male roommate were drunk and in a fight in their college dorm room. my son broke the nose of his room-mate. no charges were filed at the time of the incident or ever as far as we know. my son's roommate had his nose fixed and now his room-mate tells my son that he owes the balance of the medical bill. he and his mother has threatened to sue and press charges of battery agaist my son. they also choose to go to a doctor and hospital out of his insurance plan that will be more costly for some reason. what should we/he do at this point? we have not made contact with the family nor have they contacted us.
