What is the name of your state? Montana
I have a friend in a very unusual situation. She and an ex-fiancé had property stored at a storage unit after they parted ways. She has since moved back to Washington, him still in Montana. He would not disclose the storage facility used that she was paying him monthly for to keep up. She had a car in this unit that got auctioned off since he was not paying the monthly rental fee. The car is in someone else’s possession now, but no activity has occurred at the Montana DOL as far as lost title or registration inquiries. The operators of the rental facility say they will be the go between for the legal owner, my friend, and the current holder of the vehicle. They have another vehicle on site owned by these two they wanted to sell, but said they needed title to make the sale. Can they have made a transfer of a vehicle in Montana without a title???? Is there an abandonment law regarding storage units that includes vehicles? She just found out the unit was lost and is distraught about the loss of this car.
