Texas - using an alias illegal in Texas? If so is there a statue of limitations
A person has been incarcerated over 20 years under an assumed name. They would like to clear this but we are not certain of how and if there could be legal ramifications. The assumed name is not someone else's name, it is completely made up.

Its not illegal to use an alias in and of itself in Texas. But if you used an alias to defraud someone then that of course could be criminal. For example if you applied for credit or received a governmental benefit under an alias that could be a crime. The statute of limitations is going to vary by each specific crime but with that said I cannot think of any single fraud based crime that has a statute of limitations anywhere close to 20 years.
