As a person that chooses to remain sober if I am to be behind the wheel, I recently had walked out of a tavern after an evening of plaing pool & drinking coffee & ice water. I was approached by a county mounty in Northern Mich. that questioned me about what I had to drink & where did I just come from. He then told me that he was going to watch me when I left & he did. He followed me for about 5 miles then pulled me over. I had asked him 4 times why he pulled me over & he refused to answer.(He really didn't have a reason.)After about 30 min.,he then told me to step out of the car to the back, placed hand cuffs on me, put me in the patrol car, while he searched my car for another 30 min. He took me to the county jail & they left me in a cell approx. 5hrs. They never booked me, nor tell me why I was being arrested. The officer also did not have on a name badge. Are they suppose to read "rights" to you during an arrest? That also did not happen either.
Then the neighboring county picked me up. They did tell me that I had an FOC warrant out. But they never read any rights to me either. When we got to the jail, I told them I was choosing to remain silent, so they took me straight to a solitary confinement cell in the men's section. I was left there for 5 days. I chose not to eat any meals during this time. I also was denied access to a phone and was not able to make any calls, until they sent in CMH to speak to me about not eating. She found out I had a bird at home & got me a phone to call someone to feed him.(Funny I can get a phone to take care of my bird but not for me.) It was at that call that my friend found out for me why I was there & bailed me out. Apparently Friend of the Court didn't receive my child support check in a timely fashion from my employer. They issued the warrant in the morn.and got the check in the aft.6 days prior to my arrest. There wasn't a
court hearing or anything. Every day in the cell I pushed the emergency button & asked if I was going to see a judge that day. All they said was no & to quit pushing the button unless it was an emergency.
So does anyone know what the correct arresting procedures are & do they really have to give you a phone call or is that just a courtesy. I almost lost my job(thank goodness I have an extremly understanding boss)not to mention the cost of getting me car out of impoundment. There were no tickets nor anything like that issued, & the officer did not put a reason down for pulling me over. Anyone Knows??? Thanks a bunch!!! I consider this abusive police tactics.

Talk to a civil rights attorney about suing the police department for an illegal stop & arrest, illegal search, and violation of police procedure. I don't know if you'll win, but you'll at least get an answer from a specialist.
