I HAVE BEEN CONTACTED BY MY LOCAL POLICE
ABOUT CALLS MADE TO MY HOME AND CELL PHONE
THAT APPEAR ON AN UNKNOWN TO ME CELL PHONE
BILL. THEY WANT TO INTERVIEW ME TO DETERMINE
THE ORIGINATING PERSON(S). DO I HAVE TO
TALK TO THE POLICE? I HAVE ALREADY TOLD THEM
I HAVE NO IDEA WHO-WHEN-FROM WHERE-OR BY WHAT
METHOD CONCERNING ANY CALLS I RECIEVE. do i have to give any information if i don't want to. what are the penalties for giving false information?

While you have no obligation to say anything and can assert your right to avoid self-incrimination, that might cause the police to look at you in a different way. Giving false information to the police can be a crime, although it is not often prosecuted. Get to a lawyer for speciifics as there seems to be a lot more here than not wanting to rat on a friend....
