What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia

After working for 13 yrs with a company my job was eliminated. I took my separation papers to the Georgia Dept of labor and filled out all the paperwork and was signed up for my unemployment benefits. I got a call from them today saying i was being denied my unemployment because my last name on my drivers license was not the same as my last name with my employer. Im a us citizen and my name and social security i worked under is what i go by. Im very legal. Can they do this?
