Assaulted for no reason in front of our home

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Iowa
I was assualted in front of our home and children for no reason. This man stopped in front of our home and wantted to talk to me. He said my daughter was causing problems for his daughter. We explained that we had been gone for 3 weeks and that wasnt possible. He couldnt tell us when or even what he was upset about. I believe he just wantted to fight. He came from a bar looking for a fight. We dont even know this man. We dont even know his real name. We asked him several times to just leave and he then hit me. He pushed me into a bush and hit me over and over and over again. We keep trying to get him to leave but he refused. He then pushed me down on the concrete my wife then called 911 along with the neighbors. He was charged with tresspassing and assualt. We later found out that this was a conspiracy with the Mayor of our town. The Mayor bailed him out of jail and come to find out they were at the bar together. Not only that. The attacker called several people in town to come watch the fight. The next day the Mayor stopped by and asked if we were going to drop the charges. We told him no and then he said this guy is going to call the cops every chance he gets but we dont do anything wrong so I dont see what thats going to do. We are good people and didn't deserve this. I want this person to pay and also the Mayor can anyone help. Please.

A conspiracy of what nature?

First you say he claimed your daughter was causing trouble for his. Then you say he couldn't tell you what he was upset about.

You're pushed into a bush, then hit repeatedly, and the meantime, you're asking your assailant to leave? Why didn't your wife call 911 the first time he put his hands on you?

I find it hard to believe that anyone will accept the conspiracy story. You don't even refer to the mayor by name!

OP - what is your connection to the Mayor and why would the Mayor have it in for you? You said you 'found out' this is a conspiracy . . .how did you get this information?
