Assulted, need help.

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia

This may be the wrong place for this post and if it is i appologize. First time user.

I was assulted by a drunk biligerent individual. I took a blindsided blow to the eye and suffered an inch long laceration above the left eye and broken tooth, as well as, a black eye and sore nose and face. The incident happened in the presence of a police officer and the individual was immediately tackled by the officer before I knew what happened. There was another altercation taking place at the moment this happened which the individuals friend was involved in. It was a typical bar brawl and my face was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I asked to press charges immediately to the arresting officer and I would like to think both individuals went to jail for battery. The reason I say I would like to think that, is the main culprit who started the incident was the only one cuffed. The individual that hit me was standing talking to friend yelling obseneties at me when a Georgia Bureau of Investigations Agent (or so he said, never saw credentials) forced me into a cab to leave the scene.

I have a case number and some other info and I will be attending the initial court date Monday. Its not the criminal prosecution I am concerned with, it the reimbursment for ER costs, dental costs, the permanent scar and busted tooth that I would like settled.

Can someone please help me understand what routes and options I have to successfully obtain compensation for the injuries, pain and suffering that I have had to endure due to this irrespondible individual?

I appreciate any insight any one can lend me.
Thanks

You can ask the judge to make restitution a part of his sentence. You can also look into your city or state's crime victim's fund.
