Company Places Me In A Violent EnvironmentWhat is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Texas I'm currently working as a loss prevention specialist for (Name Withheld). Yesterday I was contacted by my LPM, asking if I wanted to volunteer to sit at one of our store locations in my POV. It appears that these stores, several in fact, have been burglarized from the hours of 1:00AM-6:00AM. I was given a store in an area that I'm not familiar with, and proceeded there at around 12:30AM. As I took the exit to the location and approached the stop light, a group of thugs threw a beer bottle in front of my vehicle, but did not hit it. At that point, I decided that I would not continue with the task I had been presented with and returned home. I contacted my LPM and presented her with my case, she in turn feed it up the chain to the district and regional directors. This incident will obviously place me in a bad light with my superiors. Afterwards, I conducted my own internet search of the area, criminal activity ect., and was fairly shocked to see it's not a nice place. This locale is "economically diverse" to say the least, and has a rather large gang presence. I was never advised of this. What I can't understand is that we regularly employ off duty police officers, but why not in this instance? This could lead to censure, possibly even termination...I don't know. What legal recourse do I have and what arguments should I put forth if I am brought under the microscope, other than going to HR? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you |

| you were going to be in the store right? How does one incident make you conclude you couldn't go into the store? how far from the store did the incident take place?

I hadn't yet made it to the store, the incident took place before I ever got there.I also spoke with several Dallas officers and was told that what the company had asked of us was pretty stupid, especially given the area I was posted to. A cacuasion male doesn't really blend into the scenery of a Hispanic community, man. |

| "Are you a lawyer? If so, would you really be asking these questions?" You think a lawyer would not be asking these questions?

You are in the security field. Simply because your assignment is in what is considered a 'dangerous' area (considered so by you only) is not grounds for legally refusing your work assignment. Simply put, if you don't like the assignment, quit. That's what at-will employment means. NOT that they have to protect your candy ass from what YOU perceive as a danger when none has occurred.
