A friend of mines rented a room in a single family home that was converted so each room was rented out to different people. There were over 10 people living in the two story house with about 6 bedrooms (living room and garage was converted). The home owner does not live there and no one was watching the house. I am mad because the home owner did not put in the effort to ensure that the renters were safe.

The landlord is under no obligation to provide "added security" or to perform background checks.
