| just to let you know; my wife was involved in an accident. No damage to either vehicle. She was stopped. The guy behind her was stopped. He stupidly pushed (not really even a hit) her car. over $100k later and an artificial shoulder, she is doing great. vehicle damage is not indicative of the level of injury.

| While I do agree that major injury is possible from a minor impact, this knucklehead isn't claiming major injury. He's claiming soft tissue sprains and strains which are impossible to quantify or prove. I don't think this OP has anything to worry about. Your insurance company will provide you with a lawyer and if it goes to trial, I would be SHOCKED. Though, in general terms, $25k liability coverage is pretty low, you might want to consider increasing it to something more reasonable given the current cost of medical care etc. State minimum coverage is for people with no assets that can't afford anything else.

| In answer to your other question, you do not need to get an attorney on your own at this point. Your insurance carrier will provide a defense for you. If at some point in the future, it appears that this person's damages really are in excess of your policy limit, and you have significant non-exempt assets, you should hire an attorney yourself to oversee or work with the defense counsel provided by your carrier. |
