Hair dresser ruined hair

What is the name of your state? California

I have a question...I've tried to find out by searching online with no luck. I went into the hair dresser to have my hair shampooed only. While shampooing my hair, the hair dresser somehow got it all worked into a HUGE knot, it was the size of a baseball. After trying for an hour to get the knot out, I finally told them that I would go to my own stylist to have her attempt to get the knot out or cut it out...obviously I didn't want them anywhere near my hair with scissors! My hair dresser wasn't able to get the knot out and had to cut it out. The knot again is the size of a baseball and my hair dresser cut off 6 inches of wet curly hair, which owuld have been about 12 inches straight! I am wanting to ask for monetary compensation, but my cousin that is also a hair dresser said that I can't sue for that. She said my hair would have to not grow back in order to be compensated. Is this correct or do they have to compensate me for the damage. Might I add that my scalp is very sore and tender today due to all the tugging and pulling they had to do. Thanks for your help!undefined

The new look isn't bad...but definately not what I would have done. It is a lot more high maintanence than before and with a 2 yr old and a 4 month old and a husband in Korea...it's not practical! Also, I ended up beign away from my son all day yesterday using my entire emergency supply of breast milk because I had to go to another hair dresser that is about 30 min away and be fit in to get it corrected.

I think tomorrow I am going to call them to find out what if anything they are willing to do to correct it...and then if it is not satisfactory, I think I will try small claims? I could understand if I went in there to get my hair cut and just didn't like it, but I only went in to get it washed and ended up getting 12 inches cut off!!!

Just curious, why did you have to pay someone to wash your hair? Other than the fact that it feels fabulous to have someone wash my hair I don't think I would pay just to have that done.

Whoa what was in the shampoo to cause your hair to knot up??? A conditioner rinse couldn't get the tangles out???

Ha ha...what a curious subject! I have very thick hair and had a baby 4 mo ago...so I lose a lot of hair right now (change in hormrones). Anyway, I hate having the loose hair all over me, and it's onlyl $5 to get it washed (I learned this when dealing with preterm labor) so I sometimes do that instead of washing it myself.

As for what's in the shampoo....I wish I knew. I think it was more in the technique the girl used. She did a lot of twisting and what not. Still not sure if I can sue them, but I am going to call the management to find out what they intend to do about it, file a complaint with the barbering board and think about small claims...I think I said that already once...just me going over my options again!

I would like to point out the fact that wet hair, is longer than dry, due to the weight of the water, if they cut off 6 inches wet, it was only about 3and a half, to 4 inches dry, not 12, nice try though. If you don't believe me, next time your hair is wet, measure it, then measure it dry, and see for yourself.

This measurement was after my hair had been towel dried. Trust me, my hair was longer dry than wet. When wet, it was just lower than my shoulder, when dry, it was past my bra strap...it might not have been 12 inches dry, but it was at least 8 inches dry.
