Heart attack in Las Vegas

What is the name of your state? California
About 6 weeks qago, while on vacation, my husband suffered a " acute mycardial infarction" heart attack.Main artery completly closed off.Time was of the essence on the extent of damage that occurred. The vacation resort where we stayed protocal was to send up their security team when I called for an ambulance..not only did it take them (what seemed to be )forever to get to our room but not only could they not administer a simple asprin, aside from a very primitive oxygen unit, their lack of expertise was very evident.I had assumed they had already called for the perimedics???they had not and finally did.Alot of wasted time!!He suffered permenant damage to the heart muscle ,.He is at appx 30-35 % and we wont know for quite a while how much if any will restore. It has been very obvious to us lately his life expectency is now much less. Do we have a case against the resort?? Does nevada have laws to protect then?? T.Silva

You should delete your double post.

Do you know how many minutes of time were wasted and can you prove how much damage was caused by the additional time to get the ambulance there as opposed to what he would have suffered anyway?

Nevada, like California, has a E911 system, (Las Vegas Vacation Tips -- Hospitals and Emergency Medical Care
The Las Vegas fire department maintains emergency medical technicians and paramedics that respond to all 911 calls.) www.lasvegasvegas.com/vacation/hospitals.php since you were in your room with access to a phone, the same one with which you called security asking for an ambulance, YOU could have called 911.
How are they supposed to know his atery was occluded and not just another tourist who had over indulged? Oxygen is oxygen, you were lucky they had it You could have given him an asprin, however, giving him an asprin unless under medical supervision, could be seen as practicing medicine without a license. Much of your complaint is hindsight. The resport is not responsioble for your husband's medical condition or the results of his MI which he survived. Most people who suffer a MI and survive require cardiac rehab after recovery no matter how long between forst call for assistance until treatment is administered at a hospital. Most men who suffer MI or undergo bypass surgery have some lingering cognitive aftereffects. Most people, at this point would be grateful their spouse was alive. Please consult your estate planner, carry asprin in your purse, learn how to dial, 9-1-1, be sure your husband is enroled in a cardiac rehab program and both of you adopt healthier lifestyles at least insofar as diet and exercise. Also be careful with his driving in the future.

Asprin, oxygen and morphine are what the paramedics would have given your husband anyway (after recieving the OK from the doc in the ER via radio transmission). Oxygen is one of the most important things that can be given while being transported to the hospital since it essentially helps decrease the work the heart has to do.

I agree with rmet that you should have called 911 yourself ... there is no way that I would trust any employee of the facility to make the call - I would much rather have two ambos show up then none at all. An EF of 35% isn't all that horrible after a major MI - hes lucky to be alive at this point. Again, I agree with rmet to carry asprin in your purse and to make sure your husband gets into rehab to help in his recovery.

Not on my many trips to the ER. The BEST thing to give while on the way is a 30 year old bourbon with one cube of ice

A shot of Burbon for wifie would have been OK, & she could have got it from the wet bar before they left.
