I was assulted

Portland Oregon. I was asulted by two guys and require surgery on my face. No one was arrested because the officer says its my word aginst theirs. I am looking for a layer right now, I would like to know if people get away with this or do i have a chance to get compinsated for my losses? I think its only fair that they should pay for my medical and loss of work time. any thoughts?

thoughts? Yes. Hire an attorney, sue the two men who assaulted you, prove they assaulted you and that you had no part in the liability of the attack and MAYBE you'll win.

Or, more likely, since you have no proof (otherwise the police would have arrested them), you will likely lose and be out legal fees and court costs and still have medical bills.

The burden of proof is lower in civil court, but you still need to have SOME evidence. I mean, obviously you didn't beat up yourself, but that's not the only factor.

Another thing to consider - do you have health insurance who paid your bills? If so, then even if you sue and win and collect, you will have to reimburse your health insurance company the money they put out for your bills BEFORE you get to keep anything including for lost wages.
