Inmate Mistreated/Injured

My friend is detained in Riker's Island and arrived with feet/leg problems & wearing his support shoes were making these injuries able to live with. The officers took his sneakers away from him & gave him cheap/flat slippers with no support. My friend pleaded his case to have his shoes back since he was constantly uncomfortable from these awful slippers but they officers didn't care & allowed my friend to remain uncomfortable to the point that he couldn't walk. Also, these slippers ripped on him causing him to fall while he was moving about the premises, making his conditions even worse. On top of that, the inmates were locked in their cells for two days. My friend had sewage leaking from his ceiling onto where he sleeps et al, it even flooded his cell a bit & they refused to do ANYTHING about it, he had to sleep in that & breathe it all in. My friend is not a bad person, he made a mistake, he does deserve to be treated humanely & he does deserve a second chance. Does have a case against this treatment he's endured? Please advise. Thank you.

It's hard to feel sorry for anyone who's sent to a facility like Riker's Island for comitting a crime you seem to want to minimize.

His experience should make him a better man when he gets out.

The cliche is, "If you don't want to do the time, don't do the crime."

He's not supposed to be "comfortable" in jail.

I trained there for 2 weeks. It is a hell hole and even the C.O's will tell you that. It's not your suburban jail for sure. His second chance will be when he gets out. Tell him to go with the flow or it could get worse.
