Issues with Public School System

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Louisiana
I've had ongoing issue with my son being, picked on/bullies, at school since first of school year. We've been to school several times and informed staff of ongoings, and been told "if he dont tell us anything then we dont know", well i as a parent was informing them. He came in last week and tells that he's being moved to another room and cannot tell my why. I received no note or call from staff informing me of such so, I called teacher and she say's well some kids are being bullied and we want to break up the "chemistry" in class but assured me it wasn't my child being bullied it was another child. My child thought because of this move he would no longer be able to play in school band. I went to school next morning, assist principal knew nothing of the moves then when questioned teacher she stated well he was moved, his mother called and we moved him back today. Again all this done without any parent notification. I again asked asst. principal why not rid bullies instead of shuffling children around. On 1/10 my child was hit in back of head with a rock at recess busting his head, again i was not notified when this happened. I find out that evening from the bus driver who found out from another child on bus. Parent/teacher conference was that night, when asked teacher why not notified she stated "i was concerned with gettin the bleeding stopped and ice on area i'm sorry i forgot but it wasn't my responsibility to call it was office personnel or duty teacher" so i questioned principal and assist. principal, neither knew anything of incident involving my child and assured me once again it would be looked into again. I can't afford to send to private school and with zoning/districting was told i was not allowed to send to another school. Wouldnt this be negligence on the school for not protecting my child from these "bullies" if they knew of them prior to the incident?

Bullies have a right to an education too. They can't just be "removed". You need to teach your son how to deal APPROPRIATELY with bullies, not expect the school to do it for him. The school can only do so much, they can't prevent all injuries or bad experiences for the students, there will never be enough staff for that. I think your expectations are unreasonable.

well where we live they have alternative schools for "problem" children and our school system is suppose to have zero tolerance for bullies.. i didn't say they didn't deserve and education, but if they choose to continue to be disruptive in reqular classes then they should be sent to the alternative school and this isn't being done. I have taught my child that fighting doesn't accomplish anything it only creates more problems.

It sounds like that there is a serious manners problem from your description. While all kids have the right to an education, something should be done about the bullies and lack of manners in the school. I would suggest some courses in anti-bullying for the kids and that the principal take the action more seriously. You may want to raise this at a PTA meeting or teacher parent conference perhaps or arrange a meeting with the school administration. Getting the ASB or student government involved may help as well.

At this URL, there is a free curriculum for anti-bullying that I found: Creating Compassionate, Safe, Respectful Environments - Operation Respect
