legal responsibility for taking 16 year old friend of son on vacation

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Tennessee
What legal responsibility do my husband and I for taking a 16 year old friend of my son's on vacation to Chicago? What legal documents would we need from her single mother? Can we be sued if she has an accident or something happens?

Power of Attorney.

yes, you can be sued. anyone can sue anyone in the US. whether you or the other person win or not, is another question.
