My dog attacked by two neighbor dogs.

What is the name of your state? Arizona

On Friday February 29, 2008 I had my dog tied in front yard, came in for a bit. I heard barking and my dog crying. I opened the door and saw two dogs really quick, one came to the door while the other one continued to fight my dog. I was scared and closed the door, till I could figure out how to go out without getting attacked myself.

I tried to make noises from inside and try to scare the dogs away, it didn't work, I finally made myself slowly go outside and get my dog inside. I called the Mesa police department to let them know there was two big lose dogs outside, they asked if they had attacked anybody? I said no, only my dog. They said they would send someone in a few hours. Never sent anyone.

My dog was limping and I decided to go outside and see which way the dogs went and if they had a tag to contact owners. They were running around the culda sac by my house and a neighbor helped me get number, I called owner, left message. My dog needs surgery and I spoke to the man and he said one of the Akitas was limping and he would shoot it first before paying for it to get surgery.

My dogs leg is a mess and I don't have many options, but to come up with $3000 for surgery, have him euthenized, or turn him into a shelter. He is a great dog, we love him, he has been with us for 7 years, we got him from the pound.

This whole thing is a mess! I don't know what to do? My neighbors live two houses down and it is so hard to believe that they wont take responsibilty for what their dogs did. At first I talked the lady into paying the first vet bill which was $274 because of the x-rays, but that is all they are willing to pay.

I hear that because it was a dog that was injured there isn't much I can do. I hope someone can give me some good advice. I thought about going on U-tube and hoping that 3000 people would donate a dollar each for me to have the dog's leg saved. I don't knowWhat is the name of your state?

Wow, that is awful. Have you asked your neighbor if they have homeowner's insurance? I would ask that, and if they won't give you the info, small claims court is pretty much your only option. Unfortunately, if you win, collecting is a huge hassle (like what if they don't have assets?). Another option (and senior members please don't get mad - I'm not sure if this option is viable) but if you have homeowner's insurance maybe you could use that to pay for the animal's care, then have your ho company subrogate to the neighbor? As far as liability, the evidence that the neighbor has offered to pay or has paid the xray vet bill helps your claim that they know they are responsible....

I hope for the best for your beloved doggie. My husband and I both are huge dog lovers and if this had happened to one of our dogs, he would lose it. Our doggies are family.

Best wishes and good luck. I hope you can raise the money to get your doggie's care.

Kathy

These are even options? wtf.

Fix your dogs injuries and sue the owner. Also go to the police and file a report, the dogs charged at you, remember!!!!

If the dog is really suffering I'd put the poor thing down. I once had a $4 dollar hamster that cost me $500 in vets bills and I said never again. I now have a rabbit who is likely to be euthanized by an electrical cord

Reply to My dog attcked by two neighbo

My dog is not suffering trust me when I tell you I wouldn't allow him to suffer. Although I cannot afford to have his surgery, I take him to the vet every two weeks. I guess I came across as if I would consider using the two options that are bad.

I took my dog to vet last week to have another splint put on because the original one was cracked and I talked to the original vet we saw and he said maybe the wording from previous vet was a little harsh! This is what it said prognosis is poor without surgical prevention!

I have had him on antibiotics since day one and for pain he had something like ibuprofen and also Tramadol 50mg. I was doing some research and found out about the house insurance thing and basically I need to write them a letter have it delivered with signature request and go from there.

When this happened I did call Mesa police and they said basically that unless the dogs attacked a human being they couldn't do anything about it:-( My dog must be feeling so much better now that the infection is cleared up from the tooth going into his leg, because he still runs around! He sounds like a horse with the cast or a woman wearing hi-heals!

I feel that although I have had to keep using my credit cards to continue his care I will some how get back the money eventually. I have one year to follow through with this in Arizona.

Arizona Revised.statute.$$11-10201,1025

According to what I read it is serious if the dogs go after humans or livestock, but property damage is also listed and if anything as cold as it sounds my dog is property.

Well thanks to those kind dog lovers outhere who gave me their kind replys.
