Hi all,
My son was enrolled in a public school vocation program while he was in High school he was 17 yrs old. He Took the H.V.A.C. class to learn a trade. The second and final year of the class he and some students who were supervised by the instructor (teacher) was working on a demo unit that showed how the gas turned from a liquid to gas and back. This was a defective training model that was donated by a air conditioner company to the school board for the students to fix and show off in a open house that was planned. The shop class another class, modified the unit and the teacher of the hvac class put in the wrong refrigeant. The morning of the planned day my son and a couple students were instructed to check the pressure on the unit to see if any had leaked off. They turned the unit on and my son hooked up some guages to the unit the teacher had supplied and was waiting on the machine to build up pressure so they could see if any had leaked off. While they were waiting in front of the machine the unit exploded! The refredigent lines were glass so you could see the gas. glass shards went every where injuring two students and the teacher. My son had 3 tendons severed and multiple cuts and abrasions. They were rushed to the hospital my sons arm was repaired. He now has a 4% disability in those fingers now really big scars plus many of them. The school board and the air conditioner company want to settle out of court now and I'm not too sure as what to ask for. His medical bills are $8,000 mostly for his surgery on his arm where the tendons were severed. The ambalance bill, and one evaluation by a doctor all of which has been turned over to collection agencys and has ruined his credit before he got a start. I do not like his lawyer too much he seems to be cutting a deal behind the doors and said if he gets his med bills paid he will be doing good. I plan to go to court if a good amount is not offered. But how much is this worth? Any advice is helpful. Thanks |
