| Neglect in a county jail What is the name of your state? Mississippi
My fiance was incarcerated 4 days after he had been hospitalized for congestive heart failure and diabetes. While he was being held in the county jail to be transported to MDOC, he complained of having swelling in his legs and pains in his feet that kept him up all night. He put in several sick calls. I talked to the jail administrator about the situation and he only told the asst. administrator to call me. I was told by the asst. administrator that she was not going to take him to the doctor because she couldn't "take them all to the doctor when their feet hurt" and that he had never complained to her about his chest pains, shortness of breath or swelling. The jail administrator said that he would look into the problem and I only got a call from the asst. again. I told them both that he was diabetic and that he has congestive heart failure and I felt that it should have been looked at by a doctor. It was just brushed off. Later when he was transferred to the state facility, he ended up having to have Lasix shots to be diuresed, after a failed attempt with the shots, he was hospitalized and 50lbs of fluid was diuresed from his body. He was also started on medication for diabetic neuropathy. After his hospitalization he was sent to have a cardiac catherization because of his heart failure. Is there anything that can be done about this? Is this a case of medical neglect? Can it be pursued in the courts? What is the name of your state? |
