Question

NJ Student Personal Liability Suit

I'm being implicated in conjunction to a group of friends for a personal injury lawsuit, not directly involved but I understand affliation can make you liable (Present at time of injury). Papers haven't been served or anything yet, but a friend of mine received a letter in the mail informing him of the upcoming lawsuit. I'm a college student and while I have no cash of my own, I do understand that they can sue and receive money from the homeowner's insurance of my family. Getting my family involved would probably be the least desirable thing that could happen. I'm pretty sure there's no point trying to be made with this, it's just some people trying to make some cash.

Now, I'm willing to deal with this stuff myself, but REALLY don't want the folks to find out. Thing is I'm graduating end of this year, only need about 7 more credits. Anyone know if they will be able to trace it back to my family once I've graduated? On the same lines, will my family's homeowner's insurance still be liable if I become a part-time student (I understand I lose a lot of insurance coverage being a part-time student)? I'm thinking if I'm not being covered, and am flat out broke, I'll be looked over for an actual lawsuit.

Other possible pertinent information: Not living on campus, but folks still paying the rent.

You need to provide more details. What exactly happened? Was it on your property or your parents'? Were you just a bystander or did you participate in any way?
