Question

personal injury

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? South Carolina

I have a friend that got hurt in Atlantic City when he was staying at one of the hotels. He had to get a lawyer in New Jersey to represent him, the medical bills are 5000.00 and they offered him a total of 9000.00 of which the medical bills have to be paid and the lawyer has to get a third. He was out of work for a while due to this accident and wants to be properly compensated. Because he would not accept the 9000.00 and wants a jury trial, the attorney decided to quit. I want to know how much he owes the attorney if he didn't settle and the attorney quit the case? Because now he will have to get another attorney to represent him. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

What did your friend's attorney say when your friend asked him that question?

The fact that the attorney dropped the case might not bode well for your friend; it appears that your friend might have a case that will cost a lot to litigate with very little reward.

Question

I asked my friend what the attorney said and he said that he still hasn't spoken with the attorney he just speaks to his ( the attorney's) secretary. I told him I feel he should have accepted the $9000.00 and been done with it because eventhough he was out of work for a while (he is a painter) due to not being able to stand on his (sprained) ankle, I really don't think he could get any more money for being out of work. That is just my opinion and I don't know much about what lawyers do.

Looks like it will be hard to prove lost wages if he was not in the middle of a job when this happened.
