Personal Injury at Former Boyfriend's house

What is the name of your state? IL

In June of 2006 My former boyfriend accidently cut 2 of my fingers on the right hand. I went to the ER and had to have stitches. The ring finger has not made a complete recovery. In the winter is gets cold very quickly and I cannot type with it. Can I still file a claim under his homeowners insurance?
Am I partly to blame, since I put my hand up on the hedges to clear away what he had been cutting, but thought he was done with the area that I was clearin?
