Rabies Shots in Dallas

What is the name of your state? Florida, incident in Dallas while on biz

Was walking off breakfast outside hotel, about a mile from the property I encountered two menacing pit bulls and was bitten on the leg. I had been walking across a bridge, there were two homeless men living under the bridge, they had unleashed dogs running around,
dogs spotted me walking, ran up embankment, hopped fence and attacked. Homeless guys just stood there watching the fun.

Kicked one dog off my leg, both ran back under the bridge. I called 911, paramedics came and treated my wound. Animal control arrived, guys were already gone through a maze of bridges and woods. Police arrived, cursory search of the area. I inquired about hospitals, cop offered to drop me off at an urgent care center. No one amongst 4 city personnel advised that I needed to get rabies shots, nor did they have any clue about the protocol.
Paramedic advised tetanus shot and antibiotic.

Urgent care PA had no clue about rabies shots, nor did they dispense, he offered to look up rabies treatment on the internet and printed some info for me. Advised I call health department for more info.

After my own research I went to emergency room and waited six hours for treatment, they did have the rabies vaccine. Let me tell you, there is no more excruciating pain than having multiple needles of immune globulin injected directly into a dog bite. Wow. Almost needed restraints.

Police officers on the call were not aware that there were homeless living under that bridge.

Had to cut short my business trip at considerable expense to return home to Florida to continue the series of rabies shots, 4 more to go.

Does a city like Dallas enjoy sovereign immunity in a situation like this? Do I have a case?

Thank god I didn't have my kid walking with me (or any other kid could have crossed that bridge)...What is the name of your state?

You have no case against anyone other than the owner of the dogs involved in the attack.

The rabies series is expensive. A year ago I had them and the charge was $780 or so for each shot (*5). But the peace of mind is worth it.

Especially given the alternative of contracting rabies.
