Was in a bar with some friends Sat. night. A guy was in there who was being obnoxious from the time we arrived, making inappropriate comments to the girls we were with etc. At the end of the night most of our friends had left and myself and two of my friends stayed. We were up at the bar closing our tab and a girl that the obnoxious guy had been hitting on accused one of my friends of taking her drink. She soon found out that it was her friend who had taken it and apologized to my friend. The obnoxious guy whom I was standing next to got pissed and said we had to leave. I told him, "who are you to tell us to leave?"
He then proceeded to lead with his elbow and hit me across the head causing me to go to the ground and lose consciousness. When I came to they had taken my other two friends into the back room and saw what happened to him. He hit both of them immediately after he hit me without warning causing one of my frieds a swollen face and black eye and the other a chipped tooth and bloody nose.
The bartenders told us to call the cops, which we did. The cops got him and put him in the back of their car. They then sat down and basically told us that he said we pushed him first and that if we press charges he'll do the same and they will have to take us all in. At that point we just wanted to get home so we left. Ok that's the situation now here are my questions.
1. Can I still press charges? I believe the cops just didn't want to deal with the hassle of a bar fight and didn't advise us correctly. My two friends and I are college graduates, teachers and have a squeaky clean record. I guarantee this guy has a rap sheet a mile long. There were also witnesses who came out and told the cops they saw what happened, but the cops told them to go back inside. |
