I access my property by way of a recorded deeded access along with 5 other property owners, in Michigan. What are my rights concerning this access? Can the owner of the land that the access road is on put a gate across it even if the gate is not locked?

Yes, under the condititon that said gate does not restrict normal and usual access. If the gate is to be locked then all 5 property owners must be given a key/combination to the lock.
