My spouse wants to add my name to the house deed. How does one go about doing this? I read, on the internet, that we could use either a grant deed or quitclaim deed, but we're confused as to which one to use. The house is paid for so there is no mortgage company involved. However, the letter of reconveyance that the mortgage company sent us (years ago) has them listed as the beneficiary and we need to change this. We live in California.

**A: have an attorney use a quit claim deed.
