Agency Issue: Are these charges fair?

Dear all,

I am going through a break up. We are renting and I am moving out. The lettings agency has both our names on paper.

Today I asked the agency what is required of me. The reply was:

Thank you for your email. We can prepare an addendum that will remove you from the current contract and release you from your current contractual liabilities. The cost for this is 96$. The process takes 10 working days from payment of fees. Our bank details are:

If you can let me know when you have made this transfer, then we can work towards preparing the paperwork.

My question is: Why 96? And do you think these charges are fair?

Should we guess what state you are in? Or rather that you are England? The people that would know why $96 is the landlord. Is it fair? Don't know. Where are you?

You are incorrect. Laws vary even state to state in the US, let alone from country to country.
