Our neighborhood is adjacent to a high school baseball field. In earlier years, the backstop was a cage like structure to restrict foul balls from hitting the houses and cars of residents from across the street. This backstop has been replaced by an open backstop. The foul balls are regularly hitting and damaging the houses and cars. The affected houses have decided present the school district with the damage bills. However, the biggest worry is a resident getting hit with a baseball. The school district has only given residents lip service on restricting the balls. We want to document all of the balls hit our way. Is it legal for the residents to keep all of the balls that land on their property? During ball games, how can we keep the baseball people from coming into our yards to retrieve the balls?
I live in city of Los Angeles, CA.

You can keep the balls in your property. Call the police the next time you have an incident. Get with your neighbors and all have a talk with the school principal.
