Buyers Share

What is the name of your state? PA

I am purchasing a home with my boyfriend. I will be providing the down payment, closing costs, and potentially a majority of monthly payments (at least initially). How can I protect myself and my share of ownership? Is there a way to do it without establishing an LLC?
Thanks!

**A: yes, buy it solely in your own name.

I agree with HG. Don't put your boyfriend in title unless he's contributing a proportionate amount to the down payment, closing costs etc... Even then, it's not a good idea. If you're not commited to marriage together yet, it's not time to commit to the largest investment of your lives together either. Spend some time going through all the horror stories on this site concerning this same issue. Why would you want to do that to yourself when it sounds like you have the ability to keep it simple and purchase the home on your own?

Tell your boyfriend "no bridal, no title".

Signed,

Dear Abbey

I agree with Samm and HomeGuru. Read some of the posts on this forum about unmarried people who bough homes together.
