buying land question

What is the name of your state?n.j im interested in buying about half an acre from an attached proptery behind my house anything i should do or look out for ? im going to town to find out who ownes it then calling my laywer tommorow any help would be great i have my land survey it shows the other tax lot there is a lot of woods and no house near by if that means anything thanks
