Cool

Two and a half years ago i signed a lease with a boyfriend. the boyfriend turned out to be quite abusive. I left after four months. Two months before the lease was up i went to pick up something i had left in the garage to find out my ex had not made payments in the past month and had moved leaving the house in not so great shape. i recieved a letter from the owners lawyers asking for the amount of back rent and damages. I wrote them a letter stating the conditons that i left under and told them i would pay them the $3600.00 for the last three months of rent at $300.00 dollars a month. i told them if they did not accept this then i would be forced to claim bankruptcy i have no assets for them. i asked them to sign and return if they aggreed i heard nothing back from them. i sent it again still nothing. when i got a copy of my credit report it had the debt listed but it was very vague on payment and status. i havent opened a bank account scared that they will garnish my money in my account. Is there any way to know if my savings will be garnished and what is the limit on the number of years this debt can remain valid or be pursued?
If my ex were to claim bankruptcy what portion would i still be responsible for? Once something has passed the deadline on SOL can the deliquency still remain on the credit report or how can it be removed? I am in florida-thank you.
