Unhappy

I am being sued by my ex-landlord (commercial space) for many various items, the original lease (with another owner/landlord) was from 1987 to 1990 and nothing has been signed since that original lease. I left this space in June of 2000 with a six month verbal notice that I was leaving . So, what do I have to look foward to ? Attorney & fees ?
Thanks, Tango Red

Very complicated ,, but my mirrors that were glued onto the walls by his workers .. in his remodling of a new space
he put me in ..and I did not protest the move as I felt I had no recourse as there was 'no lease' ..the cost of the mirrors and new dry wall on these walls, and I guess all walls were re-done due to small nail holes where pictures were hung. Apparently he purchased new mirrors for me in this move from one space to another .. and is charging me for them ,, was not aware of this at the time. This is a Dance Studio , so alot of mirrors. The total amount he wants me to pay is quite sizable .
Hope this helps you , thanks again

No that is not what I am saying. You have not provided the complete story with all the details and issues to recieve even a half decent response.

Wink

Hmmm, ok, will try again ... with the information I have already sent ... when I moved , I took my mirrors, my ballet barres(which of course were attached to the walls) , the pictures off the walls.. and he now says I need to pay for the complete reconstruction of the dry wall for all walls and pay for anything that I took that was attached to the wall ... which of course were the mirrors . That is the basis for the lawsuit...not sure what else matters. Will be glad to share whatever you may need to advise me, if I knew what that was .

Not an attorney but am a landlord. From what you are saying I suspect you are going to have to pay the damages. Reason is the material was permenantly mounted to the walls causing damage when removed. Now you have an out maybe if you only screwed them to the walls, you could argue not permenantly mounted. If you glued to the walls and damage was done then he will probably prevail. It does sound like your lease was fulfilled and as long as you gave notice of moving and are paid up you should have no problem there. Now giving some advice from experience, you should photograph the rental before you move in and then photograph the rental when you move out just in case you run into this problem in the future. Best defense is documentation of conditions present and past. Otherwise your word against his and his repair bills.

Good luck

Very strange circumstances here ... was with this landloard in the original space for 8 years ...with no lease...he then wanted my space and moved me to another area. He glued my mirrors to the wall, or the mirrors he bought for me ..of which I was not aware of ..just thought they were mine from the original space. And he now wants me to pay him for what he did , not me . So Mr. Landlord, talk to me .
Thanks for your input
