I have just recently succeeded in the eviction of the tenant in my rental. Yesterday was the hearing for DAMAGES. I am please to say that I was awarded the lost rent and court costs. However, the judge me if I had made a JOURNAL ENTRY. She also ask the defendants atty and he did not reply. I told her "no" and she then ask me if I would be able to get that done within a week. Of course I said "Yes". I went to find out what the process of this was for "filing a journal entry". No one at the courthouse would assist me and advised me to seek an atty to answer my question. I am prepared to seek an atty if necessary, but I would to do it myself if I knew the following: 1. What is a Journal Entry and what is it for? 2. Is this something I can do myself? 3. Is there a sample form I can look at? 4. Is there anything else I need to know concerning a Journal Entry? Thank you

Sounds like a term I learned in accounting class and not in law school. Why did you not ask the judge "Excuse me you Honor, what the hell is a Journal Entry?"

Thanks for replying, however, I have since learned what a "journal entry" consists of. To answer your question... There was quite a few things I would have liked to have said to the judge! But I bit my tongue and it paid off! Well at least it was ordered. Actually collecting will be a different story I am sure. Thanks again

So what is the answer to your question "What is a journal entry?" I am always open to learning new things.

Basically it is exactly what it sounds like. Typed in the proper format, title, opening line, ect... A journal entry is a statement recapturing the court proceedings ( plant vs. def, what, where, why, damages, ect) and the outcome of the hearing (judgements ect...) This statement is then presented to the judge for his/her signature. Whalaa, Journal Entry !! It always amazes me how simple things are and yet so complicated at the same time ![]() Thanks again for replying Deedee deeedee@aol.com
