Question
When we bought our property the previous owner held a private mortgage - The title was transfered into our names - now the mortgage is paid and I want to get the deed transfered or the mortgage closed or whatever. Do I have to go through a lawyer for that or can it be done by a notary public?

Have a mortgage satisfaction recorded at your county or jurisdictions recorders office. Your title company might be able to help you
