To be brief: A Central-Texas resource, The Edwards Aquifer, is under the control of the San Antonio City Council, even though the entirety of Central-Texas is economically and otherwise dependant on the aquifer. The Edwards Aquifer is the sole supply of water for most Central-Texas cities, towns, and individuals. It is an indirect supplier to many more cities, towns, and individuals. The Edwards Aquifer also is the sole supplier of water to almost all Central-Texas springs, streams, creeks, and rivers. The Central-Texas economy relies on these rivers, streams, and springs. The San Antonio City Council's bias lies, of course, with the City of San Antonio.

The trouble is, instead of protecting the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone (the area where rainwater drains into the underground cave network that filters and stores the water), the City of San Antonio wants to allow a big-budget high-profile housing development (including at least 3 golf courses) to be built on top of it. This is unacceptable.

Is there anything we can do? Really... we're all feeling very powerless and becoming hopeless

The ideal way to solve this problem would be for the State of Texas to take the land from the developer by declaring the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone "imminent domain" or some similar ecological precedent
