My state is Maine. Hello. I'm trying to obtain information on the legalities, procedure, rights of a town and its citizens to discontinue use of an old state road. In our case, a new state road was built to replace an existing one. Apparently use of sections of the old state road were discontinued years ago. Others were not. Now, the Board of Selectpeople want to discontinue use of a section that will prevent one of the abutters from being able to sell a parcel of land beyond it. ANY help related to this topic would be greatly appreciated. :D

If the state holds title to the land they can transfer it back to abutting owners, you need to research your own states laws since that road has probably been there a long time.
