I live in NY state and our electric company is looking to run some new lines across my property. I have been trying to get them to take a different path (also on my property but requiring an extra pole) so as not to jeopardise certain trees in my front yard. In general, what sort of rights or leverage do I have in this situation? Can they just do what they want? Should they be offering compensation for the right of way? Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks
