Farm-land/ collateral

After tending a farm which has been in our family for over a century, this business is now coming to an end due to selfishness and arrogance. Allong with that farm there is a piece of property that my uncle lives on and that was put up for collateral if the farm payment could not be made. My grandmother's name, (my uncle's mother) is on the property. My uncle chose to leave the farm and in return is not making the farm payment. If these payments are not made, my grandmother will loose her house and part of the farm.
Is there any way to make my uncle responsible for the farm payments even though his name is not on the land? ---a side note, my grandmother has not worked on the farm since my grandfather died in 1990. She left it in her name in good faith that both sons would continue to farm.
