| With friends like this... What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Va. The mobile home we were renting went on the market in January. A friend of mine went and paid for it as a "surprise" with the agreement that we would pay her back out of our income tax check, which we haven't yet received. Now she is suing us for rent in the amount of $750 per month when the entire purchase price of the trailer was $1100. There was never any mention or discussion at all of paying "rent" while we were waiting for the tax check. Also, she didn't know that she should have titled it to us with a lien against it; instead, she just went and transferred title on the day of sale to herself. The man she bought the trailer from will supply a notarized statement that the whole deal was for us to buy the trailer and that the friend was just fronting up the money. Will she win this in court? |
