What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NJ

I did work (finished a basement) back in 2001 the owner gave me some money up front to get started which didn't even cover the materials. I know the owners mother very well she was real estate agent and I fixed houses she was listing. This house is her daughter and son in-laws house, when the job was completed and it was time to get paid the couple were having some problems, I know its my fault but I let them slide being I do work for the mother all the time. Now I find out they are going through a divorce to make matters worse. I know should have acted sooner but some times I'm too nice. . Is there anything I can do now? the house is now on the market to be sold and it is listed for $650,000. They owe me around $11,000 from 2001 , If there is something can do can I add interest too?
Please help
thanks so much for your time
