Cool

PLEASE, IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME RE: MY SECURITY DEPOSIT!!

I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA. MY EX-LANDLORD HAS NOT YET REIMBURSED ME FOR MY SEC. DEPOSIT NOR THE FOUR DAYS OF PRORATED RENT. IT'S BEEN 24 DAYS, AND I'M STILL WAITING. I MOVED OUT (SEPT. 26TH) FOUR DAYS BEFORE MY ACTUAL LAST DAY (SEPT. 30TH). HE EVEN TOLD ME I GET FOUR DAYS OF RENT BACK.

I'VE CALLED HIM A COUPLE OF TIMES, AND HIS RESPONSE IS, "THAT'S THE FIRST THING ON MY LIST OF THINGS TO DO."

WHAT IS THE TIME LIMIT AN EX-LANDLORD HAS TO PAY BACK THE SEC. DEPOSIT? I'VE HEARD TWO WEEKS. AND NOW I JUST READ IN SOME STATES IT'S 21 DAYS.

DOES ANYONE OUT THERE KNOW WHAT THE LAWS ARE RE: SECURITY DEPOSITS BEING RETURNED?

AND I LEFT THE PLACE SPIC-N-SPAN! VACUUMED, MOPPED THE KITCHEN AND BATHROOM, BLEACHED THE SHOWER, ETC .... A LOT NICER THAN WHEN I MOVED IN.

THANKS FOR ANY INFORMATION ANYONE CAN GIVE ME!

Coolio,
it is 21 days but if you continue to keep your caps lock key engaged it is 2 months. What is the reason that your entire post is written in all capital letters? To attract attention and to be loud?

When researching L/T or any laws you need to search the laws (State Statutes) applicable to your specific state.

Re: the caps lock, it's called laziness. I just wanted to post what I had to ask, and get back to researching. In my profession, I have to be aware of everything I type, and I type ALL THE TIME. I apologize if it seemed I was being loud. That was not the intention.

21 days, huh? I'm in California, so does that still apply? And since my ex-landlord is late on paying me my deposit and prorated rent, can an extra charge be added on? If so, how much?

You suggested I check the statute laws. Is there a particular website you can suggest?
Thanks!

I suggest staying WRITE on this website, look to the right hand column in the blue under State Resources and click the link. Go to CA then Civil Codes. When you research the security deposit L/T laws you will discover that you can demand more than your security deposit amount in damages. How does twice the amount sound?
